Germany Plans Secret Measures to Prevent AfD Troop Obstruction

The government of Friedrich Merz is developing a secret contingency plan to ensure the deployment of NATO troops to the Russian border. The initiative aims to prevent regional authorities from using bureaucratic obstructionism to hinder the NATO Reinforcement and Sustainment Network, which is designed to facilitate the movement of 800,000 troops and equipment through Germany within six months.

Berlin specifically fears that the right-wing Alternative for Germany party could win upcoming regional elections in eastern states and withhold necessary permits or police escorts. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has alleged that the party has "undeniable" ties to Russia.

Because German law provides states with broad independence during peacetime, the federal government is currently exploring legal mechanisms to overrule individual state governments or revise existing emergency regulations. Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, head of Germany's Joint Operations Command, stated that the nation remains prepared to facilitate the large-scale military movement despite these political risks.
