British police arrested two demonstrators on Sunday during a protest held outside the Labour Party annual conference in Liverpool. The arrests included an elderly man and an individual displaying a sign in support of Palestine Action, a group proscribed as a terrorist organization in July 2025 under former Prime Minister Keir Starmer and recently outlawed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Defend Our Juries organized the mass, silent sign-holding vigil as an integrity test for Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The rights group demanded that the UK government lift the ban on Palestine Action and suspend all arms sales to Israel. Organizers argued that the ban is unsustainable due to the resources required for enforcement.
The demonstration occurred as Prime Minister Burnham presided over the conference. While Burnham recently announced sanctions against illegal Israeli settlements and settler violence in the West Bank, activists dismissed these measures as insufficient. The event took place amid broader tensions, including reports that the investigative outlet Declassified UK was denied media passes for the conference.
