Houthi Missiles Hit Saudi Refinery as G7 Releases Oil

Houthi rebels attacked a Saudi Aramco refinery south of Riyadh, triggering Saudi counter-strikes and a G7 release of 100 million barrels of oil reserves.

The Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones on Saturday against a Saudi Aramco oil refinery south of Riyadh, causing significant fires and smoke. The rebel group stated the attack was retaliation for Saudi strikes on Sanaa and other Yemeni provinces. In response, the Saudi military conducted counter-strikes, including 26 hits on Sanaa and missile attacks on telecommunications networks in Saada.

This escalation follows renewed fighting since July, which began after an unauthorized Iranian flight to Sanaa. The conflict has expanded to include Houthi seizures of the Bab al-Mandab strait and a naval blockade on Saudi shipping. Fighting also remains intense in Taiz between Houthi and government forces.

Global energy markets reacted to the instability as G7 nations announced the release of 100 million barrels of crude and diesel reserves to stabilize prices. While Saudi Arabia has requested assistance from the United States, President Donald Trump has reportedly rebuffed the request.
