Ukraine and India Discuss Peace After Russian Strike Kills Indian Citizen

Ukrainian officials met with India's ambassador to discuss peace efforts following a Russian aerial assault that killed 12 people, including one Indian national.

Ukrainian officials and India's Ambassador to Ukraine, Anjani Kumar, met in Kyiv on September 2, 2026, to discuss bilateral relations and New Delhi's potential role in ending the war with Russia. During the meeting, Sergiy Kyslytsya, First Deputy Head of the Office of the President, and Deputy Head Oleksii Sobolev referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message to President Vladimir Putin that the time has come to move toward an end of war.

The diplomatic talks followed a massive Russian aerial assault using ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the attacks killed 12 people and damaged civilian infrastructure, including a five-story residential building in Boryspil. Among the dead was one Indian citizen.

The Indian Embassy in Kyiv is currently coordinating with Ukrainian authorities and the victim's company to repatriate the remains of the deceased national. Kyslytsya stated that Ukraine looks forward to translating a shared interest in peace into concrete steps.
