Wang Yi Leads BRICS Diplomacy in New Delhi

Wang Yi met with leaders from India, Russia, Iran, and the UAE in New Delhi to advance Global South solidarity and resolve regional security conflicts.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conducted a series of high-level diplomatic meetings in New Delhi between June 22 and 25, 2026, during the 18th BRICS Summit and the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors. The diplomatic push focused on strengthening the Global South and managing critical regional instabilities.

Wang met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to stabilize ties following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. He urged that border disputes should not hinder wider bilateral relations and pledged support for India's current role as BRICS rotating chair before China assumes the position in 2027. The meetings set the stage for upcoming border negotiations in Beijing regarding Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh.

On the security front, Wang met with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu to coordinate efforts against external interference and oppose Japanese re-militarization. He also engaged with officials from Iran and the UAE. In discussions with Iran's Qadir Nezami, Wang pledged continued assistance for the peace process following a framework deal between Tehran and Washington. Meanwhile, he outlined regional priorities for the UAE, including a permanent ceasefire in the Middle East and the restoration of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
