Iran Claims US Warship Damage Amid Regional Base Losses

Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, claimed this week that Iranian missile strikes inflicted serious damage on United States warships and frigates. Heydari asserted the attacks forced US naval forces to withdraw at least 500 kilometers from Iran and shifted the US into a reactive role on the battlefield, attributing the success to indigenous military technology.

While the US has not officially confirmed the naval strikes, a Pentagon inspector general report released this week detailed substantial damage to US military infrastructure across the Middle East. The report states that Iranian strikes damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings at US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan, with equipment losses estimated at 3.7 billion dollars. The report also noted strategic inventory shortfalls in munitions, despite public denials from President Donald Trump.

Simultaneously, United States Central Command maintains that it has kept the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping while enforcing a blockade on Iranian maritime trade. US forces report facilitating the movement of over 900 million barrels of crude oil since early May. US Central Command also defended recent strikes in Kuhestak, Iran, against claims that a wedding ceremony was hit, stating that the military targets only military sites belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
