Donald Trump Urges Senate to Pass Sunshine Protection Act

President Donald Trump urged Republican senators on Wednesday to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, a bill that would establish permanent daylight saving time and eliminate the biannual practice of changing clocks. Trump stated that people are tired of changing their clocks twice a year.

The legislation previously passed the House of Representatives on July 14 with a 308-117 vote. It has since been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation for review.

Orthodox Jewish organizations have raised objections to the measure. Agudath Israel of America warned that permanent daylight saving time would result in later winter sunrises, which would force synagogue services to start later. Officials from the organization noted this shift could create conflicts with work and school schedules, making it difficult for individuals to arrive on time for their professional obligations.
