Assembly of First Nations Invites Mark Carney to Ceremony

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and Canadian provincial premiers to participate in a daylong ceremony before a scheduled meeting on October 26 in Ottawa. This gathering represents the first meeting between First Nations representatives and First Ministers in several decades.

National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak stated that the ceremony is intended to incorporate cultural practices and prayers to foster cooperation. The AFN is currently coordinating with elders to design the event and is working to secure a youth delegation.

The meeting occurs as tensions rise over federal and provincial efforts to fast-track major infrastructure projects. Woodhouse Nepinak described the upcoming event as a "big test" of Canada's ability to balance economic growth with First Nations rights.
