President Tinubu Launches Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026

Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the institutionalization of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026 during the National Diaspora Day Celebration in Abuja. The initiative, a collaboration between the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, aims to mobilize medical professionals for missions across Nigeria's six geo-political zones to address infrastructure deficits, personnel shortages, and gaps in specialized care.

Meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations Worldwide at the State House, the president urged healthcare workers to return home and act as ambassadors to attract other colleagues. He committed to reforms in primary healthcare, digital infrastructure, and professional welfare under his Renewed Hope Agenda to reverse the brain drain of medical talent. Tinubu cited his own professional transition from the United States to Nigeria as a precedent for returning to serve the nation.

During the events, the president praised the visiting delegation for conducting voluntary medical outreach programs and surgeries across various regions. Minister of State for Health Iziaq Adekunle Salako announced that the Ministry of Health will establish this collaboration with diaspora health professionals as a yearly event to ensure a sustained flow of expertise into the local health system.
