Trump Campaigns for Midterms as Michigan Democrat Endorses Republican

President Donald Trump held final campaign events ahead of the 2026 midterms while a Democratic rift emerged in Michigan over an endorsement of Republican Mike Rogers.

President Donald Trump conducted a series of final campaign activities on November 2, 2026, the day before the midterm elections. During an impromptu press conference at an airport in Iowa, Trump discussed trade talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and the alleged infiltration of a Chinese operative into the orbit of Jensen Huang. Later, at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., Trump stated he had worked these midterms more than any previous ones and declared he would act as "Mr. Veto" if Democrats seize control of Congress.

In Michigan, a political rift developed after Representative Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers. Trump praised Stevens as courageous for the decision, citing potential threats from leftist movements. However, Democratic leaders including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned the move as a betrayal. Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed responded to the endorsement by raising a record $2.4 million in a single day.

Other campaign developments included Vice President JD Vance rallying for Republican Anthony Constantino in New York. Meanwhile, a federal judge in Alaska dismissed a Trump administration lawsuit that had sought to block the certification of Senate results in that state.
