Rahul Gandhi Leads March to Supreme Court Over Election Fraud
Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge organized a march to the Supreme Court demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral malpractice.
Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge organized a march to the Supreme Court of India on October 12, 2026, to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest, termed the Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy, follows allegations of vote theft, or vote chori, and demands a return to paper ballots and a halt to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Chief Justice Surya Kant rejected a request from the INDIA bloc leaders for a meeting, stating that meeting political parties would violate the separation of powers and that the court cannot interfere with executive administrative functions. He advised the opposition to file formal petitions if fundamental rights were violated. Similarly, All India Bar Association Chairman Adish C. Aggarwala urged the opposition to pursue a parliamentary removal motion rather than approaching the judiciary.
These developments follow a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu and a Saturday protest in Delhi where over 7,000 people were detained. Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of imposing an undeclared emergency to suppress the agitation. The Bharatiya Janata Party condemned the march, accusing the opposition of weaponizing street protests after electoral defeats and attempting to drag the president into a political confrontation.
