Yakubu Dogara Says Nigeria's Insecurity Predates Tinubu Administration
Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara stated that Nigeria's security challenges began before the current administration while speaking at Achievers University.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara stated that Nigeria's security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping, predated the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at the 16th convocation ceremony of Achievers University in Owo, Ondo State, Dogara attributed the instability to long-term systemic issues such as porous borders, illegal arms proliferation, youth unemployment, and extremist ideologies.
Dogara clarified that while these historical facts do not excuse the current government, national security remains a primary responsibility of the Tinubu administration. He argued that the current violence did not arrive in 2023 and that the facts of the situation need no defense.
During the same event, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Bode Ayorinde discussed the expansion of tertiary education in Nigeria. He noted that the National Universities Commission recorded 312 universities as of June 2026, though he expressed concern regarding employment opportunities for the 836 graduands receiving their qualifications.
