JD Vance Warns Gas Prices May Remain High Indefinitely

Vice President JD Vance warned on Thursday that gasoline prices may remain high indefinitely, citing the unpredictability of the ongoing conflict with Iran. During a White House briefing, Vance attributed the current costs to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and stated there is no predictable timeline for the end of hostilities.

His comments directly contradict previous projections from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who had promised that gas prices would drop to $3 per gallon by Labor Day. National gas prices currently average just over $4 per gallon, representing a 35% increase since the start of the conflict and a record high for the Labor Day weekend.

While President Donald Trump has frequently predicted that the conflict would conclude soon, Vance refused to set an artificial deadline for the cessation of hostilities. These economic pressures, combined with high inflation, are contributing to voter dissatisfaction and may place Republican congressional candidates at a disadvantage in the upcoming November midterm elections.
