NVIDIA Launches Billions in Global AI Infrastructure and Investments

NVIDIA Corporation is transitioning from a hardware supplier to a global infrastructure architect through a series of massive financial commitments. The company is in talks to provide a $250 billion financing guarantee for OpenAI to lease a 10-gigawatt data center in southern Ohio, a project potentially costing over $500 billion involving SoftBank and the U.S. government. Additionally, NVIDIA invested $5 billion in Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, to grant the startup access to the Vera Rubin platform in exchange for research on aligned AI.

In South Korea, NVIDIA is spearheading several "sovereign AI" initiatives. The company entered a partnership valued at over $500 billion with SK Group to build AI factories and optimize HBM4 memory, including a 2-gigawatt AI cloud via SK Telecom slated for 2027. Simultaneously, NVIDIA invested $1 billion into NAVER Corp., acquiring a stake that makes it the company's third-largest shareholder. This investment is part of a $10 billion expansion of NAVER's GAK Sejong data center, with Brookfield providing up to $9 billion in financing to scale the facility to 200 megawatts by 2028.

NVIDIA also expanded its cloud footprint by taking a 9.3% stake in Nebius Group through a $2 billion investment, aiming for the deployment of 5 gigawatts of NVIDIA-powered systems by 2030. These moves signal a strategic shift toward funding the physical and financial layers of the AI economy to ensure national-scale compute capabilities.
