Just Stop Oil Blocks Traffic for Andy Burnham's First PMQs

Climate activists from Just Stop Oil blocked traffic at Parliament Square in Westminster on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Between 30 and 60 protesters, some wearing orange high-visibility jackets, sat or lay in the road to coincide with Prime Minister Andy Burnham's first Prime Minister's Questions. A significant number of activists reportedly glued themselves to the pavement in an attempt to prevent the Prime Minister from leaving Parliament.

The group demanded an end to new oil and gas projects, citing thousands of heat-related deaths across the United Kingdom and Europe during the summer. This demonstration marks the group's return to public disruption since April 2025, reversing a previous announcement that such campaigns would end after the government committed to halting new oil and gas licenses.

Metropolitan Police officers deployed specialist teams to remove the protesters and make arrests. Just Stop Oil spokesperson Cameron Ford stated the action was intended to send a message to the new Prime Minister regarding climate change.
