Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Freezes Eggs to Normalize Reproductive Health
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced she is freezing her eggs to gain more control over her reproductive options and normalize conversations about women's health.
U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced via Instagram that she is freezing her eggs to gain more control over her life and reproductive options. The 36-year-old New York congresswoman shared the process publicly, including filming herself administering medication before an interview, to normalize discussions regarding the professional and personal challenges women face.
During a Sunday appearance on ABC's "This Week," Ocasio-Cortez linked her decision to a political environment where the Donald Trump administration denies reproductive care and abortion rights. She stated that it is important for leaders to share these processes to normalize them for working women across the country.
While Ocasio-Cortez did not explicitly state her plans to have children, she noted the decision comes as she considers future political moves for 2028. These possibilities include potential runs for the U.S. presidency or the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Chuck Schumer.
