Donald Trump Calls for Alexander Vindman's Prosecution After Primary Loss
Donald Trump demanded the prosecution of Alexander Vindman after the former National Security Council official lost the Florida Democratic Senate primary.
President Donald Trump called for the prosecution of retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman following Vindman's defeat in the Florida Democratic Senate primary on Tuesday. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the former National Security Council director of European affairs as a "treasonous creep" and asserted that Vindman lied during the first impeachment inquiry.
Trump used the occasion to revive claims that his 2019 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was a "Perfect Call" and stated that the impeachment effort had failed. He specifically argued that Vindman should be prosecuted for his actions during that period.
Vindman lost the primary by more than 12 points to Florida state Representative Angie Nixon, despite having a significant fundraising advantage. Trump predicted that Nixon would be defeated in the general election by Republican Senator Ashley Moody, who was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to fill the remainder of Marco Rubio's term.
