Opposition Slams Tinubu Over Ibom Deep Sea Port Approval
The Nigeria Democratic Congress accused President Bola Tinubu of using a previously approved seaport project as a deceptive political tool during a visit to Akwa Ibom State.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress criticized Bola Tinubu after he announced a fresh approval for the Ibom Deep Sea Port during a visit to Akwa Ibom State on November 6, 2026. The opposition party claims the $4.6 billion project is not a new initiative, but was already approved by the Federal Executive Council on December 16, 2020, under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the ruling All Progressives Congress is using the project as a campaign tool of deceit to secure political support. The party noted that Tinubu had previously promised the port during a campaign rally in January 2023, yet construction has not commenced despite the 2020 approval.
NDC leadership characterized the latest announcement as a series of empty promises. The party urged Nigerians to hold the government accountable for the delay in starting the project, which had already named Bollore/Power China as the preferred bidder.
