Ohio Governor-elect Amy Acton Refuses to Speak With Vivek Ramaswamy

Governor-elect Amy Acton refused to communicate with defeated opponent Vivek Ramaswamy after his campaign aired an advertisement featuring Acton's estranged mother.

Ohio Governor-elect Amy Acton announced she has no intention of speaking with her defeated Republican opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, following a contentious gubernatorial election. Acton, who won the November 4 election by 8 percentage points to become the first woman ever elected as Governor of Ohio, condemned a late-campaign advertisement aired by Ramaswamy.

The advertisement featured Acton's estranged biological mother, Donna Arthur, who claimed Acton had lied her entire life. Acton described the ad as terrible and despicable, noting she has not seen her mother since age 12 after being removed from her care due to sexual abuse by her stepfather. While Republican Governor Mike DeWine and Senator Jon Husted denounced the tactic, President Donald Trump defended the ad as very powerful and advised Ramaswamy against withdrawing it.

Beyond the controversy, Acton outlined her administration's goals for when she takes office on January 11, 2027. Her priorities include an all-of-the-above energy strategy and a conditional moratorium on new data centers to balance economic growth with environmental protection and the cost of electricity and water for residents and small businesses.
