Donald Trump Expresses Desire for Third Presidential Term
President Donald Trump stated he would seek a third term in 2028 if legally permitted, while acknowledging the 22nd Amendment prevents him from running.
Donald Trump stated during an interview on the Pod Force One podcast that he would seek a third presidential term if legally permitted. Speaking with journalist Miranda Devine, Trump expressed that he would love to run in the 2028 election and cited unidentified polling suggesting he would defeat any opponent by a significant margin.
While expressing this enthusiasm, Trump acknowledged that the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution prevents a president from being elected more than twice. He described the constitutional language as very exacting and told reporters that he is not allowed to run.
Outside of these comments, Trump campaigned in Kansas ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. During the event, he criticized Democrats over tax policies, border security, and voter identification, while advocating for the death penalty for human traffickers and large-scale drug dealers. The Republican Party faces potential losses of control in both the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms.
Vice President JD Vance also addressed the 2028 cycle, stating that if he chooses to run for president, he believes Trump will endorse him. Vance noted that a presidential endorsement from Trump carries more weight than any other political endorsement in history.
