Texas Clarifies Eligibility for 1.2 Million Suspense List Voters

The Texas Secretary of State’s Office confirmed that approximately 1.2 million voters are currently on the state's suspense list ahead of the November midterm elections, including 300,000 in Houston. The office clarified that these individuals remain eligible to vote, countering social media claims of voter tampering. The list, established in 1995 to comply with the National Voter Registration Act, flags voters when counties cannot confirm a current address due to undeliverable mail or relocation indicators.

Voters have until October 5 to update their registration through the state's online portal. Those who remain on the list but still reside in the same county can cast a regular ballot on Election Day by completing a statement of residence form at their polling location.

In a separate development, Senator Richard Blumenthal released a whistleblower statement alleging the United States Postal Service is preparing to launch a flawed computer system that could jeopardize mail-in voting. This follows attempts by the Postal Service to comply with a March executive order from President Donald Trump to restrict mail voting, though a federal judge has temporarily halted that order.
