Shapiro and Garrity Agree to October 7 Gubernatorial Debate

Governor Josh Shapiro and Republican challenger Stacy Garrity will face off in a televised gubernatorial debate on October 7 in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Republican State Treasurer Stacy Garrity have agreed to a televised gubernatorial debate scheduled for October 7 at 8 p.m. The event will be hosted by ABC 27 in Harrisburg and broadcast live across several Nexstar-owned stations, including WPHL-TV in Philadelphia, as well as via streaming platforms and smart television apps.

Moderated by journalist Dennis Owens, the debate marks the first gubernatorial face-off in Pennsylvania since 2018. While Garrity's campaign pushed for up to seven debates across various media markets—including proposed appearances at KDKA-TV and a Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry event—the October 7 meeting remains the only one currently scheduled.

Shapiro currently holds a significant lead in polling, while Garrity seeks to increase her name recognition. The candidates are expected to discuss the regulation of data centers, the state's response to a recent measles outbreak, and the influence of Donald Trump, who has endorsed Garrity.
