Israel Locks Down West Bank After Army Base Attack
Israel imposed a full lockdown on the West Bank and conducted raids across 15 areas after Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers.
Israeli forces imposed a full lockdown on the West Bank and conducted raids across at least 15 areas, including Jenin, Nablus, and East Jerusalem, following an attack by two Palestinian gunmen on an Israeli army reserve base. The attack killed two Israeli soldiers and the two gunmen. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the lockdown amid upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27.
In Hebron, the Israel Defense Forces imposed widespread closures and displaced approximately 300 families from Deir Baha and adjacent neighborhoods. Mayor Yousef al-Ja’bari reported that 2,200 people were forced from their homes, while the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society stated approximately 70 Palestinians were arrested across the region. The Palestinian National Authority condemned the operations as "collective punishment," citing home demolitions and forced displacements, and called for international intervention.
Hamas stated that the escalations would fuel further outrage. The military operations included the bulldozing of homes and vehicles in Hebron as forces searched for the gunmen.
