Andy Burnham Appoints New Cabinet to Balance Defense Spending

Andy Burnham appointed John Healey as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Wes Streeting as Defence Secretary to balance the United Kingdom's domestic social ambitions with new Nato defence spending targets. The government aims to reach spending targets of 3% by the next parliament and 3.5% by 2035.

To manage the competing demands of these military goals and priorities such as council housing, social care, and devolution, the government deferred a comprehensive spending review until next year. The upcoming October budget is designated as a low-key continuity event.

Additionally, the Prime Minister appointed Ed Miliband as Foreign Secretary. Miliband will personally take the United Kingdom seat on the World Bank to shape international policy.
