President Bola Tinubu Claims Economic Hardships are Ending
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared Nigeria's period of economic hardship is over in an Eid-el-Kabir message, calling for national unity and patience with ongoing reforms.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festival that Nigeria's period of economic hardship is ending, stating that the walk through the dark tunnel is over. He asserted that reforms implemented over the last three years have stabilized the economy and positioned the country as a preferred destination for investment and job creation.
While acknowledging persistent attacks by bandits and terrorists, Tinubu cited the elimination of ISIS leader Abu-Bilal al-Manuki in the Lake Chad Basin—a joint operation with the United States—as evidence of security progress. He vowed that his administration would ultimately defeat all forces of evil and reaffirmed commitments to infrastructure and agriculture.
Political allies backed the president's narrative. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu urged citizens to remain patient, arguing that the current pain is necessary for long-term stability and advocating for a shift toward a production-driven economy. Similarly, All Progressives Congress Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda stated that the policies are essential for restoring institutional strength and global competitiveness, though they require shared sacrifice.
To mark the celebration, the Federal Government declared May 27 and 28, 2026, as public holidays.
