Trump Approval Hits Record Low Amid Iran War Inflation

President Donald Trump faces a 33% approval rating as the war with Iran drives energy prices and inflation to critical levels in the United States.

The ongoing war with Iran, which began in February 2026, has triggered a severe affordability crisis across the United States. Volatility and closures in the Strait of Hormuz have pushed gasoline prices into the mid-$4 range and driven diesel to record highs, contributing to a 3.7% year-over-year inflation increase in September.

In response to these economic pressures, the Federal Reserve System raised interest rates for the first time in three years. Meanwhile, the United States Department of War has maintained a naval blockade and destroyed 10 tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization. Regional instability has expanded as Iran-backed Houthis seized territory along the Red Sea and launched missile strikes against Saudi Arabia.

These developments have significantly eroded the popularity of Donald Trump. A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll indicates his approval rating has fallen to a record low of 33% ahead of the midterm elections. The poll found that 65% of respondents view the war as a mistake and 48% report they are financially worse off than when he returned to office in 2025.
