Pakistan Raises Petrol Prices Amid Daily Market Adjustments

The Government of Pakistan increased petrol prices while lowering diesel costs as part of a daily pricing mechanism linked to international market rates.

The Government of Pakistan increased the price of petrol by Rs1.82 per litre and decreased high-speed diesel (HSD) by 91 paisas per litre for October 8. Under a daily pricing mechanism, petrol is now fixed at Rs396.65 per litre and HSD at Rs394.94 per litre. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and the Petroleum Division notified these adjustments, which are tied to international Platts rates.

This revision follows a previous adjustment on October 7. The government transitioned to daily pricing reviews on July 17 to manage global oil market volatility stemming from tensions between the United States and Iran.

To support lower-income consumers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a special relief scheme on September 13 that provides fuel discounts for motorcycles, three-wheelers, and small cars. Additionally, the government reintroduced austerity measures on September 17, which include restricting the operating hours of shops and commercial venues to conserve fuel.
