Israeli Forces Displace 2,000 Palestinians in Hebron After Attack

Israeli forces displaced nearly 2,000 Palestinians and seized residential buildings in Hebron following a gun attack that killed two soldiers.

The Israeli Defense Forces displaced nearly 2,000 Palestinians from the Ein Deir Baha district of Hebron and flattened the Farsh al-Hawa neighborhood following a Friday gun attack on a military checkpoint that killed two soldiers. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich vowed sweeping retribution in the wake of the attack, occurring shortly before Tuesday's Israeli elections.

Military operations included sealing off Hebron and seizing residential properties to convert them into military bases. On Sunday, October 25, forces detained two children, Yamen and Muhammad Burqan, in the Al-Fahs area and transported them to the Hajti military camp for interrogation. The military also seized a building owned by Mansour al-Turk to use as barracks.

Israeli officials claimed the displaced residents belonged to the Hamas-associated Jaba’a clan. However, the Hebron municipality and local residents dispute these claims, asserting the clan is smaller than reported and that evacuations were forced. Hebron Mayor Yousef al-Jabari characterized the operations as "collective punishment" designed to achieve Netanyahu's political goals.
