India Hits 100,000 Solar Installations Every Six Days
Union Minister Prahlad Joshi announced that the PM Surya Ghar scheme is now achieving 100,000 rooftop solar installations every six days.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi announced that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has evolved into a mass movement, with the government now achieving approximately 100,000 rooftop solar installations every six days. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, the initiative aims to provide free electricity to one crore households by March 2027.
To increase affordability, the program provides subsidies of up to 40 percent. Minister Joshi noted that the installation pace accelerated significantly after overcoming early delays caused by technical portal issues and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections Model Code of Conduct.
The government expects to surpass 10 lakh installations by March 2025. Upon reaching its final target, the initiative is projected to save 75,000 crore annually in electricity costs.
