Trump Cancels Planned Massive Strike Against Iranian Infrastructure

President Donald Trump canceled planned military strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure after receiving requests for restraint from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. Trump had previously threatened to launch what he called "the biggest attack since World War II" in response to regional instability following the collapse of a July ceasefire.

Iran responded to the threats by warning through intermediaries that it would disable power plants and water desalination facilities across the Gulf region if the United States proceeded. The escalation followed a period of increased violence in which strikes primarily targeted Kuwait and Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia confirmed that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump to reduce regional tensions. Trump ultimately walked back the strikes, citing hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough.
