House Oversight Committee Threatens Pam Bondi With Contempt Charges

The House Oversight Committee is threatening former Attorney General Pam Bondi with contempt charges after the Justice Department blocked her testimony regarding Jeffrey Epstein files.

The House Oversight Committee is engaged in a legal dispute with Pam Bondi, the former U.S. Attorney General, over her refusal to attend a scheduled April 14 deposition. The United States Department of Justice informed the committee that Bondi would not appear, arguing that because she was subpoenaed in her official capacity and was removed from office by President Donald Trump on April 2, the subpoena is no longer valid.

Bipartisan members of the committee, including Representatives Robert Garcia, Nancy Mace, and Ro Khanna, reject this reasoning, asserting the subpoena was issued to Bondi by name rather than by title. Representative Garcia has threatened to pursue contempt of Congress charges if Bondi defies the subpoena, alleging an attempt to cover up the administration's shielding of powerful associates of Jeffrey Epstein.

The broader investigation focuses on the Justice Department's alleged failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, specifically regarding missed deadlines and excessive redactions. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has denied these claims, stating the department has been transparent. However, Representative Thomas Massie warned Blanche he has 30 days to release all remaining files or face criminal liability.

While the committee is coordinating with Bondi's personal counsel to reschedule the deposition, other high-profile witnesses are scheduled. Bill Gates is set for a closed-door interview on June 10, following previous testimony from Bill and Hillary Clinton.
