Congress Leaders Celebrate Indian Youth Congress Foundation Day

Indian National Congress leaders marked the Foundation Day of the Indian Youth Congress by praising its legacy and criticizing the current government's treatment of students.

Leaders of the Indian National Congress marked the Foundation Day of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on August 9, 2026. The organization, which was established on August 9, 1960, currently has more than two crore registered members.

Mallikarjun Kharge described the IYC as a "powerful voice for young India" and emphasized the necessity of amplifying young voices to build a future of equality and hope. Rahul Gandhi noted that the organization has provided a critical platform for young Indians to fight for their rights.

K C Venugopal used the occasion to criticize the current government, describing it as a "patently anti-youth regime" that employs violence and pellet guns against students. He argued that the government's failure to secure the future of the youth makes the IYC more relevant as a vehicle for addressing youth concerns.
