Pentagon Reports 47 Billion Dollar Cost for Iran War
The United States Department of Defense informed Congress that the war in Iran has cost 47.1 billion dollars through October 16.
The United States Department of Defense informed Congress that the cost of the war in Iran reached 47.1 billion dollars through October 16. Munitions account for over 60 percent of these expenses, totaling 29 billion dollars and depleting global stockpiles of critical weapons, including Patriot air-defense interceptors.
Financial breakdowns include 7.6 billion dollars for Air Force operations, 2.1 billion dollars for Army force sustainment, and 1.5 billion dollars for Navy warship deployments. The military also spent 6.1 billion dollars replacing damaged or destroyed equipment. The Pentagon reports 18 service members killed and over 860 injured, while United States Central Command reports more than 50,000 troops are assigned to the mission.
Congressional officials suggest the 47.1 billion dollar figure is an underestimate because it excludes 1.5 billion dollars in fuel costs and the multi-billion dollar expense of repairing facilities such as the Navy base in Manama, Bahrain. In response to these costs, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the Trump administration are requesting up to 70 billion dollars in emergency military spending to cover expenses and procure new weapons and personnel.
