Iran Launches Cyber Operations to Disrupt Israel and U.S. Elections

The Government of Iran established cyber teams and recruited agents to disrupt elections in Israel and the United States to deepen political divisions.

The Government of Iran has launched covert cyber operations and recruitment efforts to disrupt elections in Israel and the United States. Iranian officials established specialized cyber teams to infiltrate election systems and recruit agents within electoral processes, framing the campaign as an extension of military hostilities following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes in February.

Tehran aims to exploit political uncertainty to divide its enemies, specifically targeting Israel's inconclusive legislative elections on October 27 and the upcoming U.S. midterms on November 3. While Iranian officials state they do not support specific candidates, they seek to deepen internal divisions to complicate military actions against Iran.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that military intelligence and the Mossad identified Iranian efforts to influence the vote. He further accused Arab-majority parties of benefiting from this foreign interference. While the Central Elections Committee is probing these allegations, acting director Dean Livine stated the elections were conducted lawfully. Simultaneously, the Shin Bet removed social media accounts suspected of participating in foreign interference campaigns.
