Antwerp World Diamond Centre Gifts Lavish Ring to Donald Trump
The Antwerp World Diamond Centre gifted President Donald Trump a diamond-encrusted ring following the removal of U.S. import tariffs on polished diamonds.
The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) gifted a lavish gold ring, known as the Freedom 250, to Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of United States independence. Valued between $25,000 and $35,000, the ring was designed by jeweler David Gotlib and features 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies. Its design incorporates the Stars and Stripes, the years 1776 and 2026, and the numbers 45 and 47 in a Superman-style logo.
U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White received the ring during a celebration in Brussels, where he also raised $5.5 million for the anniversary event. Although Trump expressed his gratitude in a prerecorded video message delivered at the event, a White House official confirmed as of Thursday that the ring has not yet been physically presented to the president. Ambassador White intends to deliver the item for display in the Oval Office.
The gift follows a significant trade victory for the Belgian diamond industry, which secured a zero percent U.S. import tariff on polished diamonds in September, benefiting over $2 billion in annual exports. Ethics experts have noted that the acceptance of such an ostentatious gift departs from long-standing White House customs intended to prevent conflicts of interest.
