European Nations Face Simultaneous Wars, Heatwaves and Migration Crises

European nations are currently contending with a series of simultaneous geopolitical and environmental crises. In the Middle East, the conflict between the United States and Iran has disrupted global energy and food prices. Donald Trump, President of the United States, has threatened that Iran would be hit "very hard" if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, prompting Britain, France, and Germany to propose military operations to secure the waterway.

In Ukraine, the war has entered its fourth year. A Coalition of the Willing, consisting of Britain, France, and Germany, is attempting to protect European security interests as Trump conducts direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, effectively sidelining European allies.

Domestically, Europe faces severe climate and humanitarian emergencies. Wildfires in France and Spain have displaced more than 300,000 people. Simultaneously, a surge of tens of thousands of migrants from Morocco into the Spanish exclave of Ceuta has strained European Union unity, leading some member states to suggest suspending Spain from the bloc's free-movement zone. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has deployed the military to manage the illegal arrivals in Ceuta.
