Meta Pilots AI-Assisted Coding Interviews for Job Candidates
Meta is testing a new hiring process that allows candidates to use AI assistants during coding interviews to better simulate real-world developer environments.
Meta Platforms Inc. is piloting a new technical hiring format that permits shortlisted job candidates to use AI assistants during coding interviews. The company is currently recruiting internal employees to participate in mock interviews to refine the system and its question prompts. Meta states that this approach more accurately reflects the modern developer environment and reduces the effectiveness of traditional cheating via large language models.
This shift aligns with the vision of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who predicts that AI will function as mid-level engineers by 2025. Zuckerberg believes AI will eventually write most of the code for the company's apps, freeing human engineers to focus on creative tasks and high-level guidance. The company is also exploring the automation of other recruitment tasks and expanding its AI capabilities through Superintelligence Labs and a move toward vibe coding.
Meta's approach diverges from several industry peers. Amazon has instructed recruiters to disqualify candidates found using AI tools during interviews. Anthropic, an AI research lab, initially banned the use of AI assistants during its application process before later reversing that stance.
