Nvidia and Emerald AI Launch Flexible Grid AI Factories

Nvidia and Emerald AI have partnered with six major U.S. energy companies—AES, Constellation, Invenergy, NextEra Energy, Nscale Energy & Power, and Vistra—to develop a new class of flexible AI factories. Announced at CERAWeek in Houston, the initiative utilizes Nvidia's Vera Rubin DSX reference architecture and DSX Flex software combined with Emerald AI's Conductor platform to synchronize computing workloads with onsite energy generation and battery storage.

These facilities are designed to connect to the power grid more quickly by using co-located energy sources as bridge power. Once operational, the factories act as flexible assets capable of supplying electricity back to the grid during peak demand periods. This model aims to reduce the need for extensive grid expansion and could potentially unlock up to 100 gigawatts of capacity across the U.S. power system.

The collaboration follows successful trials at five global data centers. Commercial-scale deployment of the DSX Flex software and Vera Rubin infrastructure is scheduled for later this year at an Nvidia AI research facility in Virginia.
