US Central Command Redirects 87 Vessels in Iran Blockade

The United States Central Command reported on September 4 that its maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has redirected 87 commercial vessels. To ensure compliance with the restrictions, U.S. forces have disabled three vessels and boarded two others. This figure represents a slight increase from the 86 vessels redirected as of September 2.

President Donald Trump originally established the blockade on April 13 to restrict Iranian maritime traffic and petroleum sales following the failure of peace talks. The operation was briefly paused on June 18 after the signing of a memorandum of understanding to allow unhindered merchant shipping. However, the United States reinstated the blockade on July 14 following renewed armed clashes and attacks on regional vessels.
