Donald Trump Threatens Lawsuit Over National Guard Crime Report

President Donald Trump threatened to sue the Center for American Progress (CAP) after the liberal think tank released an analysis claiming his National Guard deployments in U.S. cities failed to reduce violent crime. The report alleged the crackdown, which targeted cities including Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., cost taxpayers over $1.7 billion with little effect, suggesting the administration exploited pre-existing crime declines to claim success.

Following a C-SPAN interview with CAP associate director Chandler Hall, Trump posted on Truth Social calling the report a "Radical Left SCAM" and listing various corporate and foreign donors to the organization. He suggested he might sue both the think tank and its contributors. Border czar Tom Homan disputed the findings, citing 16,000 arrests and 2,000 firearms seized in Washington, D.C., as evidence of the program's success.

CAP President Neera Tanden stated the organization would not be intimidated by the legal threats. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression also condemned the move, arguing that the appropriate response to the report's findings is data-driven refutation rather than litigation.
