Gold and Bitcoin Investors Diverge Ahead of Fed Rate Decision
Investors are adopting contrasting hedging strategies for gold and Bitcoin as the Federal Reserve prepares for its September 18 interest rate decision.
Investors in gold and Bitcoin are employing diverging strategies to protect against currency debasement before the Federal Reserve System decides on interest rates on September 18. Market participants currently price in a 92% probability of a rate hike, following signals from Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh that the central bank must continue working to bring inflation down to 2%.
Gold traders have adopted an aggressively bullish stance, characterized by a high ratio of call options over puts and minimal protection against price reversals. This optimism is driven by the view that gold remains the superior asset in scenarios of fiscal dominance and loose monetary policy.
Conversely, Bitcoin traders are exhibiting more caution despite raising price targets following a surge toward $80,000. While Bitcoin is viewed as a hedge against government borrowing, it often behaves as a risk asset during periods of rising bond yields and inflation. Consequently, Bitcoin investors are purchasing puts to hedge against potential declines, suggesting that sentiment recovery for the cryptocurrency remains in its early stages.
