Gordon Brothers Seeks Buyer to Save Poundland from Collapse

Gordon Brothers is seeking a rescue deal for Poundland to protect 11,000 jobs after filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

Gordon Brothers, the United States-based owners of Poundland, filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators for the high street retailer on November 4, 2026. The filing creates a 10-day window for the company to secure a rescue deal and protect approximately 11,000 jobs.

Following meetings with government ministers, the owners described the business as challenged and vulnerable. While Gordon Brothers has received solvent takeover offers, the company is facing pressure from the government to accept a bid that ensures long-term store viability. The owners stated they are pursuing all avenues through a sale process launched in September to preserve value and employment.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham urged the owners to find a practical solution to save the stores and employees, noting that the government is prepared to assist in the process. He called on the owners to focus on their employees and engage in discussions to find a viable path forward.
