Zelenskyy Fires Army Chief Syrskyi After Mass Protests

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy overhauled Ukraine's military leadership in July 2026 following a political crisis triggered by the July 15 dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. This internal instability occurs as Ukraine intensifies drone strikes on Russian oil and logistics infrastructure, while Russia continues attacks on Ukrainian port cities like Odesa and Chornomorsk. Internationally, the UN reported a 37 percent increase in Ukrainian civilian casualties for the first half of 2026.
