Byron Donalds Distances Himself From Trump in Florida Race

Republican gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds scrubbed Donald Trump from his campaign website amid poor polling but confirmed he will still appear with the president on October 31.

Republican nominee Byron Donalds is campaigning for Governor of Florida against Democrat David Jolly in a race currently viewed as leaning Republican. Donalds, a three-term congressman described as ultra-Maga, recently adopted a strategy of distancing himself from President Donald Trump by scrubbing mentions of the president and the Trump agenda from his campaign website.

This tactical shift follows declining approval ratings for Trump and poor polling regarding the president's immigration policies among Florida's Latino and Hispanic voters. As part of this pivot, Donalds replaced Trump's endorsement with that of Governor Ron DeSantis in his television advertisements. In stump speeches, Donalds has focused on blaming Joe Biden, Zohran Mamdani, and Anthony Fauci for affordability issues while avoiding discussions on the wars in Iran and Ukraine.

Despite the digital purge, Donalds confirmed he will appear with Trump during a campaign stop in Fort Myers on October 31. Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic party, criticized the move as an attempt to hide from the presidency. Meanwhile, Democrats have increased funding for David Jolly to capitalize on the tightening contest.
