NATO Strengthens Eastern Border After Russian Drone Strikes

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced that the alliance will increase support for Ukraine and strengthen defenses for its 32 member countries along the eastern border. The decision follows Russian drone strikes on trains and a truck in western Ukraine near the Polish border, which Rutte described as a sign of Vladimir Putin's desperation to sow fear and terror.

Poland has responded by implementing stronger security measures and constructing border fortifications. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the 18th Engineer Regiment is building blast walls and reinforcing observation posts at the Dorohusk, Medyka, and Korczowa crossings. Polish officials, citing CIA intelligence, warned that Russia may increase sabotage operations to discourage Western support for Kyiv. The Polish army also recovered a Russian military drone from the Baltic Sea near Jaroslawiec.

Regional tensions escalated as Russian Presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev threatened that Polish statehood would cease to exist within two to three days if Poland launches military operations against Russia. Simultaneously, NATO fighter jets intercepted and destroyed a drone in Lithuanian airspace, an event President Gitanas Nauseda linked to intensifying Russian aggression. Reports also indicated Russian drones entered the airspace of Moldova and Romania.
