Young American Voters Shift Away From Donald Trump
Young American voters are decreasing their support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party due to economic concerns and deportation policies.
Young American voters are shifting their political alignment away from Donald Trump and the Republican Party ahead of upcoming elections. New York Times and Siena University polling shows that Democrats now hold a slim one-percentage-point advantage with young men, a significant drop from 2024 when 55 percent of that group supported Trump.
Support among young women for the Republican Party has fallen from 31 percent in 2024 to 13 percent. Voters attribute this decline to the cost of housing and gas, the administration's deportation policies, and the treatment of women and American allies.
While some young voters are moving toward Democratic candidates or democratic socialists such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, many remain undecided. These voters express frustration with both major parties, citing a perceived lack of focus on the rising cost of living.
