Ethics Row Over Secretary Pete Hegseth's Wife Sparks Removal Efforts
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth faces calls for removal after reports reveal his wife was paid by a consulting firm representing Lockheed Martin.
Financial disclosure reports reveal that Jennifer Hegseth, wife of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, received payments last year from Watchtower Strategy, a Washington consulting firm with ties to Donald Trump. During the same period, Watchtower Strategy represented Lockheed Martin, leading to accusations of conflicts of interest.
Former Representative Matt Gaetz criticized the arrangement, arguing that spouses of Cabinet members should not be paid by lobbyists. Watchtower Strategy defended the hire, stating Jennifer Hegseth was employed for her television contacts and did not provide advice on defense matters. A spokesperson for the United States Department of War stated the Hegseths are in compliance with ethics laws.
Despite public defense from President Donald Trump, reports suggest he may be considering replacing Hegseth with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis following recent Republican election losses. Meanwhile, Democratic leaders and some Republicans, including Representative Thomas Massie, are pursuing impeachment or removal efforts during the lame-duck session.
