India AI Hiring Surges as US Awaits Jobs Report

AI and machine learning hiring in India grew 20 percent in September while the United States prepares for a critical jobs report amid high inflation.

Hiring for artificial intelligence and machine learning roles in India grew 20 percent year-on-year in September, according to the Naukri JobSpeak report. While overall white-collar hiring increased by only 2 percent, demand shifted heavily toward experienced professionals. Hiring for AI/ML specialists with 13-16 years of experience surged by 54 percent, while general IT and software services hiring declined by 4 percent.

Hitesh Oberoi, CEO of Info Edge (India) Ltd, noted that the market is becoming more selective as demand moves toward specialized skills. Sectoral growth was led by the auto industry, which rose 11 percent, and Global Capability Centres, with Hyderabad leading that segment's growth at 23 percent.

Simultaneously, the United States is preparing for a Friday jobs report to measure economic resilience. Economists expect the addition of 84,000 jobs in September, a significant slowdown from the 162,000 added in August. This follows a recent interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve System to combat an annual inflation rate of 3.4 percent, which remains above the 2 percent target. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh stated that inflation has remained too high for too long.
