After winning the Republican primary, Alvarado shifted his messaging from being an America First Fighter to emphasizing independent leadership and bipartisanship, with a specific focus on the cost of living and affordable healthcare.

Alvarado's pivot included scrubbing language regarding the woke agenda and removing a photograph of himself with the president. Similar actions occurred in Arizona, where gubernatorial candidate Andy Biggs removed Trump endorsed lettering from his roadside campaign signs.

These shifts follow a decline in the president's approval ratings. White House and party leadership have implicitly encouraged midterm candidates to distance themselves from the president's brand to increase their appeal to general election voters.
