Trump Attacks Michigan Senate Nominee During Campaign Swing
President Donald Trump campaigned in Michigan and Georgia, labeling Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a jihadist and announcing a $4.2 billion Audi plant investment.
Donald Trump campaigned in Michigan on Sunday, where he targeted Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. Trump called El-Sayed a "jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member" and compared the effort to prevent his election to the actions of passengers on United Flight 93 during the September 11 attacks.
El-Sayed, a former public health official who would be the first Muslim senator if elected, denied ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and denounced the rhetoric as an attack on his faith and Egyptian heritage. He is running against Republican Mike Rogers, who has also questioned El-Sayed's loyalty to the United States. The race to succeed retiring Democrat Gary Peters will be decided on November 3.
During a separate visit to Georgia on Saturday, Trump announced that Audi will invest $4.2 billion to build an automobile plant in Macon. The facility is expected to produce 200,000 premium SUVs annually and create approximately 4,500 jobs, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027.
